WELCOME, VISITORS: We are glad you could be with us and we welcome you back any time. Please sign our guest register in the narthex.

PRAYER: Almighty and everlasting God, You are always more ready to hear than we to pray, and to give more than we either desire or deserve. Pour on us the abundance of Your mercy, forgiving us those things of which are conscience is afraid. Amen.

HYMNS: 580, 446, 169, 332

ORDER OF SERVICE: Service of Word (p 38ff)

FIRST LESSON: 1 Kings 19:3-8

What does God do with Elijah’s complaints? He ignores them! For God has work for the prophet to do and lays on him no more than Elijah can bear, in spite of Elijah’s complaint to the contrary. God provides what is necessary for the job.

PSALM OF THE DAY: Psalm 34 on page 80

The children of God seem so weak and perishing but live to praise the God who saves them so that they may continue to worship Him in accord with His word.

SECOND LESSON: Ephesians 4:30-5:2

It is impossible for natural man to come to faith or please God. But see how the gospel motivates and encourages us to want to do these impossible things! The Holy Ghost works through the gospel.

GOSPEL: John 6:41-51

Jesus is lowly in outward appearance, so undistinguished. But notice the miracle! He bids us believe. The Father draws us to the Son by the Words of the Son. Now, fed by the bread of life, we trust His promise and await the glorious day of our resurrection!

THE SERMON: 1 Kings 19:3-8

SERMON THEME: “Lord, I’ve Had Enough”

I-Are you fed up?

II-Then be fed
