HYMNS: 735 (s), 314, 405, 563/441, 345 vs 2-3

ORDER OF SERVICE: the Common Service p 15ff

FIRST LESSON: Joshua 2:8-21

An unlikely person became a Christian and an ancestress of Jesus. Joshua sent two spies to check out Jericho. They came to the house of a prostitute named Rahab. She had heard about the great things God had done for the people and the Holy Ghost used this to lead her to faith. She was willing to help out the two spies.

PSALM OF THE DAY: Psalm 133-134 on page 115

We rejoice in the unity God has given us in the fellowship of faith.

SECOND LESSON: Romans 11:13-15,28-32

At one time or another, God bound over all the world to disobedience so that God’s mercy might call His elect from among the Jews and the Gentiles. God’s message is meant for all people.

GOSPEL: Matthew 15:21-28

A Gentile woman’s repeated pleas are met with silence, exclusion and insult. Faith in a loving, merciful Savior still sees room for a “yes” in His harsh replies. Her “great faith” in Jesus in not disappointed, but strengthened. Her prayer is answered with the healing of her daughter.

SERMON: Matthew 15:21-27

THEME: Are You Hungry for Crumbs?

Friday           10 – 4  Immanuel Volunteer day at the Wise Penny.

EHV (see readings insert) stands for Evangelical Heritage Version of the Bible. So far the New Testament and Psalms are completed. The project is grassroots. EHV is not the official product of any church body. Parish pastors who work with the Word in the daily life of the church are heavily involved.
