ORDER OF SERVICE: Service of Word p 38ff

FIRST LESSON: Acts 3;12-20

After healing a crippled beggar, Peter points to the source of the healing—the risen Lord Jesus. The apostle calls on the crowd to put their faith in Jesus.

PSALM OF THE DAY: Psalm 16 on page 68

We can trust God for protection. Not even death can overcome us.

SECOND LESSON: 1 John 5:1-6

Everyone who believes “that Jesus is the Son of God” shares in His victory. As a fruit of faith, those who are “born of God” are able to “obey His commands” and have “overcome the world.”

GOSPEL: John 20:19-31

Jesus appears to His disciples, first on Easter evening and then a week later. Thomas, who was absent on the first occasion, is present on the second, and he responds in faith. “These”—all that John had written in his Gospel—“are written that you may believe.”
