FIRST LESSON: Acts 4:8-12

Peter tells the Jewish high council that Jesus lives and reigns as the Savior of all people. Peter quotes the prophecy in Psalm 118, which speaks of Christ as the stone that the builders rejected, who has become the capstone.

PSALM OF THE DAY: Psalm 118 on page 57 (s)

A repetition of the psalm for Easter Day, with the stress on proclaiming the Easter truth: “I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the Lord has done.”

SECOND LESSON: 1 John 1:1-2:2

John speaks of the “Word of life,” “Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.” He has brought light into the world by paying for the world’s sin.

GOSPEL: Luke 24:36-49

Our risen Lord appears to the disciples. He tells them that His suffering and rising from the dead is the fulfillment of God’s plan foretold in the Old Testament Scriptures, and He instructs them to wait in Jerusalem

until the Father gives them the power to be His witnesses.
