HYMNS: 719 (s), 168, 160, (Insert)

ORDER OF SERVICE: Service of the Word p 38ff

THE WORD

FIRST LESSON: Acts 8:26-40

Philip shared the message of the Lord’s victory with the Ethiopian eunuch. Sharing Christ with others is an important fruit of faith.

PSALM OF THE DAY: Psalm 67 on page 91

The psalm begins by recasting the Aaronic benediction into a prayer for God’s blessings, and it then becomes a missionary prayer that the nations would join in praising Israel’s God.

SECOND LESSON: 1 John 3:18-24

God wants us to believe in Jesus and to love one another. The Spirit, as He gives us the power to do both, assures us of our standing with God.

GOSPEL: John 15:1-8

The evidence of faith in Christ is a life of deeds of love. Those “fruits” grow out of our fellowship with Christ, and they mark us as His disciples.

OUR FATHER’S BUSINESS

MEDITATIONS for new quarter are available in the narthex. They have a nice one-page devotion for each day of the week.

RETIREMENT Pastor Smith is planning on retiring July 31st of this year. He will be taking two weeks of vacation before that (Pastor Ladner plans on leading our worship on July 22nd and 29th), so his last day will be July 16th. Farewell is being planned for July 8th.

MOTHERS’ DAY SONG FEST is being planned. Sheet is out in narthex for you to indicate your favorite hymns.

CUPCAKES On Saturday May 5th a cupcake baking day is planned. We will be making, baking and decorating cupcakes beginning at 8 AM and continuing until we are done. We are happy for volunteers to help with the project for all or part of the day. We will be offering 6 packs of cupcakes Sunday morning. A freewill offering will be collected with proceeds going to start a fund to replace our aging public address system.

INVITATION Everyone in the congregation is invited to the Mineheine home to help celebrate Natasha’s confirmation next Sunday. Address is 825 Fox Trail in Buffalo.

BRANCHES BAND will be offering a free concert at St. Peter’s in Monticello on Saturday, May 5th, at 6:30 PM.
