FIRST LESSON: Acts 11:19-26

The Word of the Lord spreads after the first great persecution in Jerusalem. The church at Antioch experienced substantial growth, especially among the heathen.

PSALM OF THE DAY: Psalm 98 on page 53 (s)

God has kept His promise; the Savior was born, He lived, He died, and He is alive forevermore. We join all creation in joyful celebration.

SECOND LESSON: 1 John 4:1-11

John urges us to “test the spirits to see whether they are from God.” The Spirit of God can be recognized in those who acknowledge that “Jesus Christ has come into the flesh.” John also tells us to love one another, since God loved us by sending His Son as a sacrifice for us.

GOSPEL: John 15:9-17

Jesus points out the connection between love and obedience, and He tells us to put our faith into action by loving one another.

CONFIRMAND this year is Natasha Mineheine. She is the daughter of Mike and Tabitha Mineheine. Please welcome her.

RETIREMENT Pastor Smith is planning on retiring July 31st of this year. He will be taking two weeks of vacation before that (Pastor Ladner plans on leading our worship on July 22nd and 29th) so his last day will be July 16th. Farewell is being planned for July 8th.

MOTHERS’ DAY SONG FEST is being planned for next Sunday. Sheet is in narthex for you to indicate your favorite hymns.

THANKS to all helping with Church clean-up or making cupcakes.

2018 VBS will be a one-day version on Saturday, July 14th from 9 AM to 3 PM. The construction theme will be “Build on the Rock.” Would you like to join the fun? Call Julie Gutknecht ASAP.
