HYMNS: 186, 171, 169, 177/165, 183 vs 1-2

ORDER OF SERVICE: the Common Service p 15ff

FIRST LESSON: Ezekiel 37:1-14

The Lord asks Ezekiel, “Son of man, can these bones live?” Without God’s Spirit, though there may be physical life, there can be no spiritual life. With God’s spirit, what is dead is made alive.

PSALM OF THE DAY: Psalm 51b on page 87

The Spirit of God moves us to repentance and brings us forgiveness; He opens our lips and arouses us to praise.

SECOND LESSON: Acts 2:1-21

Luke records the spectacular outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost. Peter’s stirring sermon proclaims that “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

GOSPEL: John 14:25-27

Jesus tells the disciples not to be afraid, because He will send the Holy Spirit, the Counselor.

THE SERMON: John 14:25-27

A LOT OF BUILDING will go on during the 2018 one-day Vacation Bible School (VBS) with a building theme. Build on the Rock offers a great day of fun that teaches us how Jesus is our rock-solid foundation. It is scheduled from 9 AM to 3 PM on Saturday, July 14th. Pre-registration isn’t required but would be helpful in planning. Contact Pastor Smith or Julie Gutknecht. There are door-hanger invitations in narthex. Program is free and open to young people from age 4-14.
