PRAYER: Almighty God and Father, dwelling in majesty and mystery, in mercy cleanse our hearts and lips that, free from doubt and fear, we may ever worship You, one true immortal God, with Your Son and the Holy Spirit, living and reigning, now and forever. Amen.

HYMNS: 724 (s), 195, 748 (s), 619

ORDER OF SERVICE: Service of the Word p 38ff

FIRST LESSON: ………..Isaiah 6:1-8

The God of our salvation, who has revealed Himself to us in His incarnate Son, Jesus Christ, is triune—three divine Persons in one God. This is the God Isaiah saw in his vision.

PSALM OF THE DAY: Psalm 150 on page 122

Joyful sons and hymns of praise are the fitting spontaneous response of the Christian heart to God’s gift of Himself to us in His Word and sacraments.

SECOND LESSON: Romans 8:14-17

The love called for in the law is not, indeed by definition cannot be, slavishly rendered. For it is a love produced by God Himself through the Word of the Spirit who has made us children of the Father and thus hearts with the Son of all the glory He won for us by His suffering.

GOSPEL: John 3:1-17

Not sinful flesh, not human reason, but our God alone with His mighty and glorious gospel in the Word and sacrament can bring us to faith and to the love for God that flows from faith.

THE SERMON Isaiah 6:1-8

THEME: Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord Almighty
