Before Communion

Lord, I am not worthy to be a guest at your holy table. But you are the friend of sinners, and you will not cast me out. This bread is your body, which bore my sins upon the tree. This wine is your blood, which purifies me from all guilt. At your invitation, I come rejoicing. Receive me, my Savior. Amen.

CONFESSION OF SINS

M: Beloved in the Lord: let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins to God our Father, asking him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness.

C: Holy and merciful Father, I confess that I am by nature sinful and that I have disobeyed you in my thoughts, words, and

actions. I have done what is evil and failed to do what is good.

For this I deserve your punishment both now and in eternity.

But I am truly sorry for my sins, and trusting in my Savior

Jesus Christ, I pray: Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner. 

LORD, HAVE MERCY

FIRST LESSON 1 Kings 19:19-21

¹⁹ So Elijah went from there and found Elisha son of Shaphat. He was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen, and he himself was driving the twelfth pair. Elijah went up to him and threw his cloak around him. ²⁰ Elisha then left his oxen and ran after Elijah. “Let me kiss my father and mother goodbye,” he said, “and then I will come with you.”

“Go back,” Elijah replied. “What have I done to you?” ²¹ So Elisha left him and went back. He took his yoke of oxen and slaughtered them. SECOND LESSON 2 Corinthians 11:21b-30

^21b Whatever anyone else dares to boast about—I am speaking as a fool—I also dare to boast about. ²² Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they Abraham’s descendants? So am I. ²³ Are they servants of Christ? (I am out of my mind to talk like this.) I am more. I have worked much harder, been in prison more frequently, been flogged more severely, and been exposed to death again and again. ²⁴ Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one. ²⁵ Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was pelted with stones, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea, ²⁶ I have been constantly on the move. NICENE CREED

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty,

SUMMER PICNIC (FKA “SOMETHIN’ ON A BUN”) SAVE-THE-DATE:   

Outdoor Worship Service & Lunch: This year’s fund-raising event will be Sunday, July 6 beginning with an outdoor service at 9:30 a.m. followed by a chicken (broasted & grilled) lunch with cheesy potatoes provided (potluck side dishes and desserts).

Volunteers being sought:

~We need someone who can help manage the bean bag competition.

Please bring a nonperishable item(s) for the Buffalo Food Shelf. Our goal will be to fill up our silver buckets!

Silent Auction: Register your silent auction donations with Julie Gutknecht, Lucy Bechtold or Lorraine Roush ASAP. Nonperishable auction items may be dropped off at church at any time   (but at least by Wednesday, July 2). SALEM HELP WANTED: Two positions are available at Salem Lutheran School in Greenfield. See the west bulletin board for details. Part-time School Janitor to help maintain a clean, safe and welcoming environment; 20 hours per week from August through May and 4 hours per week in June and July. After School Care Supervisor to provide a safe and nurturing environment for Salem students at the end of the school day; 3.5 hours per day when school is in session.
