Prayer Before Worship
Heavenly Father, I have come to worship you. Draw near to me in your gracious Word, and assure me of your loving kindness. Curb my wandering thoughts, that with undivided attention I may hear your voice and sing your praise. Amen.
SERVICE OF THE WORD

CONFESSION OF SINS
M: We have come into the presence of God, who created us to love and serve him as his dear children. But we have disobeyed him and deserve only his wrath and punishment. Therefore, let us confess our sins to him and plead for his mercy.
C: Merciful Father in heaven, I am altogether sinful from birth.
In countless ways I have sinned against you and do not deserve to be called your child. But trusting in Jesus, my Savior, I pray: Have mercy on me according to your unfailing love. Cleanse me from my sin, and take away
my guilt.

SECOND LESSON Galatians 5:1, 13-25
5 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. 14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. 16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. 25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” 26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?” 27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” 28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.” 29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” 30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God, the Father almighty,

M: O Lord, our God, you are wise and powerful, good and gracious.
Your mercies are new every morning. Each day you open your
hand and provide for the needs of your children on earth.

M: Strengthen your Church in all the world. Let your comforting
message of salvation in Christ Jesus be proclaimed to troubled
souls everywhere.
C: Use our ministries and offerings to extend your healing and
your hope.
M: We bring you our requests for the various structures of our
society. Bless our national, state, and local governments.
C: Grant us civil servants who are worthy of honor and respect.
M: Grant prosperity to our businesses and industries. Give employers
a sense of fairness toward their workers, and employees a feeling
of joy and pride in their workmanship.

M: Invigorate the schools of our land. Give success to every effort
that helps students read, think, and communicate in ways that will

OUR FATHER’S BUSINESS
THANK YOU to Pastor Paul Marggraf for sharing God’s Word with us this morning and conducting our service. Pastor Oehlke is leading worship at Mt. Olive, Delano, one final time.
SUMMER PICNIC: Many thank yous for the success of the picnic: Pastor Oehlke for conducting the outdoor service accompanied by organist Karen Davis; Julie Durr and Emily Kleist for managing the kitchen; Julie Gutknecht and Lucy Bechtold for controlling the silent auction; Mark and Linda Hoffmann for calling the bingo; and Jacob Kleist for maintaining decorum during the bean bag competition with Karson Peters and Bryce Weese winning first place and Loren and Bridget Weese taking second. Food Shelf donations totaled 50 pounds plus $20. With final figures coming in, the cemetery board will be receiving nearly $1500.
MT. OLIVE INSTALLATION: The Rev. Zachary Flunker will be installed as the new pastor of Mt. Olive-Delano at a special ordination/installation service this afternoon beginning at 4 p.m.
VACATION OPTIONS: The OWLS (WELS Seniors) is partnering with Father’s World Tours to offer trips across the USA for all ages. Options include a Labor Day to the Ozarks (8/29-9/1); wildlife/waterfall viewing on Minnesota’s North Shore (9/2-5); a New England autumn (9/22-10/4); or a Southern California/Mexican coastal cruise (12/31-1/13).
