All Saints’ Sunday
ALL SAINTS’ DAY: This special day is set aside to remember
all those who have gone before us into heaven and are living the victory
of the Lamb! Today reminds us of these Words in Revelation 7:9-10, “After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that
noone could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were
wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.”
GATHERING VERSE (from Rev. 7:14)
ALL: “These are they who have come out of the great tribulation;
they have washed their robes and made them white in the
blood of the Lamb.”
OPENING HYMN (#728S) “Jerusalem the Golden”
Stand
INVOCATION
M: In the name of the Father and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit.
C: (Sung) Amen.
CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION
M: In the midst of life, we are in death, from whom can we seek help?
C: From you alone O Lord, who by our sins are justly angered.
Heavenly Father, I, a poor miserable sinner, confess that I am
by nature sinful and that I have disobeyed you in my thoughts,
words, and actions. I have done what is evil and failed to do
what is good. For this I deserve your punishment both now and
in eternity. But I am truly sorry for my sins, and trusting in my
Savior Jesus Christ, I pray: Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.
M: God, our heavenly Father, has been merciful to us and has given
His only Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Therefore, as
a called and ordained servant of Christ and by His authority, I
forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the
Son + and of the Holy Spirit.
PRAYER AND PRAISE
M: In the peace of forgiveness, let us praise the Lord:
ALL RESPOND (sung) (#195) “Holy, Holy, Holy
1. Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our songs shall rise to thee;
Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty,
God in three persons, blessed Trinity!
2. Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore thee,
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
Cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee,
Who was and is and evermore shall be.
PRAYER OF THE DAY
M: The Lord be with you.
C: (Sung) And also with you.
M: Let us pray: Almighty God, you have knit your people together into one holy Church, the body of Christ our Lord. Grant us grace to follow the example of your blessed saints in lives of faith and willing service and with them at last inherit the inexpressible joys that you have prepared for those who love you; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
C: (Sung) Amen.
FIRST LESSON Revelation 21:1-6
21 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, because the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. And the sea no longer existed. 2 And I saw the Holy City, the New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
3 And from the throne I heard a loud voice that said, “Look! God’s dwelling is with people. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them, and he will be their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain, because the former things have passed away.” 5 The one who was seated on the throne said to me, “Look, I am making everything new!” He also said, “Write, for these words are trustworthy and true.” 6 And he said to me: It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To anyone who is thirsty, I will give freely from the spring of the water of life. (EHV)
M: The Word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.
PSALM OF THE DAY (sung) Psalm 34 (page 80)
SECOND LESSON 1 John 3:1-3
3 See the kind of love the Father has given us that we should be called children of God, and that is what we are! The world does not know us, because it did not know him. 2 Dear friends, we are children of God now, but what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that when he is revealed we will be like him, and we will see him as he really is. 3Everyone who has this hope purifies himself just as Jesus is pure. (EHV)
M: The Word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.
VERSE OF THE DAY
M: Alleluia. They are before the throne of God and serve him day and
night in his temple. Alleluia. (Revelation 7:15)
C: (Sung) Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
GOSPEL Luke 6:20-23
After the announcement of the Gospel, the congregation sings:
C: (Sung) Glory be to you, O Lord!
20 He lifted up his eyes to his disciples and said: Blessed are you who are poor, because yours is the kingdom of God. 21 Blessed are you who hunger now, because you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, because you will laugh. 22 Blessed are you whenever people hate you, and whenever they exclude and insult you and reject your name as evil because of the Son of Man.
23 “Rejoice in that day and leap for joy because of this: Your reward is great in heaven! The fact is, their fathers constantly did the same things to the prophets.” (EHV)
The Gospel of Our Lord.
After the Gospel, the congregation sings:
C: (Sung) Praise be to you, O Christ!
NICENE CREED
M: Let us confess our holy faith in the words of the Nicene Creed:
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation, he came down from heaven,
was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary,
and became fully human.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate.
He suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who in unity with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

C: We thank you, Lord, that you have made us your saints.
M: Encourage us by your gracious promises. Forgive our failures to live as you desire. Strengthen the faith of all who are weak and wandering.
C: Give us power to live as your faithful people.
M: Your saints will triumph forever in new heavens and a new earth. The sound of weeping and crying will be heard no more. We anticipate with joy an eternity of perfect fellowship with you.
C: Be with us as we work and witness for Christ, so that many more people can join us before your throne.
Special prayers.
M: Hear us, Lord, as we bring you our private petitions.
Silent prayer.
M: Lord of life, the day is coming when you will come down from heaven with the voice of the archangel and the trumpet call of God. On that glorious day, the saints triumphant will rise in bright array, clothed in your perfect righteousness.
C: Give us strength until that day when we will share fully the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
THE LORD’S PRAYER
C: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory
forever and ever. Amen.
REMEMBRANCE OF THE SAINTS TRIUMPHANT

faith and thanking God for the victory He gave them through our

THE SACRAMENT
PREFACE
M: The Lord be with you.
C: (Sung) And also with you.
M: Lift up your hearts.
C: (Sung) We lift them up unto the Lord.
M: Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God.
C: (Sung) It is good and right so to do.
M: It is truly good and right that we should at all times and in all places give you thanks, O Lord, holy Father, almighty and everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who in blessing
his saints of the past has given us glorious assurance and hope that, following their example of faith, we may run with perseverance the race marked out for us, and receive the crown of glory that will never fade away. Therefore, with all the saints on earth and hosts of heaven, we praise your holy name and join their glorious song:
HOLY, HOLY, HOLY
C: (Sung) Holy, holy, holy Lord God of heavenly hosts:
heav’n and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he, blessed is he, blessed is he
who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest.
WORDS OF INSTITUTION
M: Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night he was betrayed, took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
Then he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant,
which is poured out for you for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
M: The peace of the Lord be with you always.
C: (Sung) Amen
O CHRIST, LAMB OF GOD
C: (Sung) O Christ, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world;
have mercy on us.
O Christ, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world;
have mercy on us.
O Christ, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world;
grant us your peace. Amen.
